Wonder Woman was not only the top-grossing DC universe movie ever but also the woman-directed movie with the highest-earning opening and the most tweeted about movie of 2017. So, we’re not feeling too surprised to hear that a sequel is in the works. Still, given the all too common misperception that movies starring female superheroes won’t bring people to the box office, we are feeling vindicated.
Wonder Woman 2 was announced in a sizzle reel at Comic-Con, The Verge reports. But it’s not the first time a second Wonder Woman movie’s been discussed. The Hollywood Reporterreported in June that the film’s director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot had agreed to appear in the sequel. And a few weeks later, DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns told Variety that he and Jenkins were already writing the script.
One of the few things we know about Wonder Woman 2 is that it’ll have a different setting from the first movie. “The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right,” Jenkins told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”
